A Brief but
It all began back in 1985, when local Chicagoan, Chef Larry Raymond, perfected his family's recipe for a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce and entered it into the country's largest rib cook-off — the Mike Royko Ribfest. Named after Chef Larry's little brother David "Sweet Baby" Raymond, who got his nickname shooting hoops on the west side of Chicago, Sweet Baby Ray's Barbecue Sauce beat out nearly 700 entrants and a legend was born.
Over the next 30 years our sauce has grown to include more than 20 flavours, and moved from Chef Larry's basement to backyards, ballparks, and grocery stores nationwide. But for all our success we’ve stayed true to our roots, and our motto has always remained the same: "The Sauce is the Boss."
